Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Work Project (JRCWP)

Every year since 1984, former US president and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Jimmy Carter has donated one week of his time – and his building skills – to Habitat.

Each year, he and his wife Rosalynn lead a major volunteer building event which attracts thousands of volunteers. Usually the event takes place in the USA one year and overseas the next. The project invites volunteers from around the world to travel to a different location to build Habitat homes with families who need decent, affordable shelter.

The 27th annual Carter Work Project will be held from Oct. 4-8, 2010, to coincide with the United Nation’s World Habitat Day.

The Carters will work with volunteers in Washington, D.C.; Baltimore and Annapolis, Md.; Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minn.; and Birmingham, Ala. In each location, volunteers will participate in a combination of building new houses and improving existing homes)

The  23rd ANNUAL JIMMY CARTER WORK PROJECT (November 2006)

Habitat for Humanity’s Jimmy Carter Work Project 2006 brought together thousands of volunteers to Lonavala, Maharashtra, to build houses with local families in need. The week long event, led by former US President Jimmy Carter and his wife Rosalynn, focused attention on  poverty housing in India, to illustrate what can be accomplished when families, communities and nations come together to build a future where every human being has a decent place to live.
